Beginning with a pair of points, the midpoint of their segment is created by dilating one point by 1/2 towards the other point. This midpoint (marked as a center) is used to create a new point by rotating one of the original points about it by 90 degrees. This newly created point is then dilated towards the midpoint by 2/3 to create a new point whose distance from the midpoint is 1/3 the length of the original segment. The rotated point is then hidden. The iteration consists of four maps, created by matching the original endpoints to the pairs of points: left endpoint & midpoint, midpoint & last dilated point, last dilated point & midpoint, midpoint and right endpoint.
